After a PhD-related hiatus from studio work, I took part in Borderlands, a three month artist residency programme, invited by the Atelierhaus Eupen. In Belgium, my research came out in a new context, and new work, among a great group of artist friends. Our residencies culminated in two group exhibitions: a booth at 2025 Art Düsseldorf, and a collateral show nearby in Areal Böhler. The catalogue is in PDF here.

A Body A Border explores the intersection of the body’s spatial boundaries and national borderlines – an experimental performance documented in collaboration with Belgian photographer Christian Charlier. The light tracings took place in a cave-quarry, Groeve de Keel, near Maastricht, which lies underneath Belgium and the Netherlands. The political border is a red, hand-drawn line (below), among other historical and modern graffiti on the cave walls. For the experiment, ten participants stood on the borderline, reaching between nations and reaching in individual ways to the edges of their body’s range of movement.
