Elizabeth Hoak-Doering

I am an American-Cypriot interdisciplinary artist and writer. I have exhibited kinetic installation, experimental drawing, printmaking, durational media and book arts. Most of my works, in text and image, explore the role of individuals in society: how they contribute to social contexts, are shaped by and sometimes oppose them. More generally I have worked on agency, including the agency of objects and the environment. I have a multidisciplinary, experience-based research practice, which is visual, and rooted in my background in anthropology. I am currently writing a doctoral thesis in archaeology. My research has been published in academic journals and my artwork is part of international public and private collections. I am based between Cyprus and Berlin, with visits to Philadelphia where I grew up.
